Hello all,
I am having problems with a peer-to-peer network that I am
currently hooked into. I have become the de facto tech guy
since I am the only one who has much know how in the area.
All the computers are running windows XP and we are just
using simple file sharing. To date I have had very few
problems and have been able to solve all of them. I have
one now that has me stumped. As some know, on XP sharing
the My Network Places folder will display all the shared
resources on the network automatically. Well my roommate's
computer mysteriously stopped displaying The connectivity
is still good, he can ping and receive pings, and he can
search for shared computers and access resources that way.
The only other associated error is if he tries to view the
workgroup computers he gets an an error that says 'the
list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available'. I did some research and tried a couple of
solutions that I found. I took a look through the event
viewer on his system and found some alerts from the
browser but none that seemed any different from the ones
on my system (which has been working fine). I am at my
wit's end here. It may seem like a trivial thing but it is
pretty annoying to have to access shared resources in a
convoluted manner. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
And yes NetBios over TCP/IP is enabled. Incidentally all
the other computers on the network see his computer
fine.
Thanks,
Chris
PS If it wouldnt be too much to ask if you know the answer
to this one, please email me as well as bandwidth is
limited out here (I'm on a navy ship right now)and
repeated checking takes quite some time
