I have a new laptop with windows XP media center edition. Can Win XP with
mediacenter be upgraded to Win XP Pro.

In other words is the XP Pro upgrade compatable with the mediacenter edition.

What is the media center edition anyway

No, that's a downgrade and downgrades aren't supported. The only way to put
XP Professional on is by clean installing it.

Why do you want to do this? Are you are aware that XP Professional is a
subset of Media Edition. There's only one feature in Professional that's not
also in Media Edition, and that's the ability to join a domain. Unless you
need that (and very few home users do), there's no advantage to doing this.

My wife has a Dell Inspiron 6000 with MCE, and her Palm PDA won't sync.
The documentation states that it is only compatible with the home and
professional editions of XP. Does that include MCE, or is it not
compatible?

I don't know for sure, but it's hard to imagine that MCE's extra features
could cause the problem.
