Ron Boetger explained on 21/10/2006 :
I have something strange thinds going on here. We have a Dell
Optiplex running Windows XP Pro. For some reason it keeps going into
STANDBY mode. I have gone into Power Options under all users and set
every drop down box to NEVER!
ANother odd thing is that when you go into the Power Options
Properties under Control Pannel it shows 2 columns Plugged In and
Running on Batteries just like a laptop. -
I have looked at 3 other Dell Optiplexe's and all of them only have
only one option ans that is Plugge In Option.
When you bring the machine out of Standby it says you batteries are
low and you should charge them.
Any Ideas how to fix this

I have the same machines and they keep doing that even when you have
disabled all standby settings on BIOS and OS level
you could try flashing the BIOS to the latest release
haven't got around to do it myself though ^^

Is anyone logged in when this happens? If not, and this is a newish
Optiplex, go into the BIOS and disable the Dell power save settings (S1 or
S3, I forget which is which)

Although the problem may be BIOS related, this could be a factor as
well:

Try this:

right click on desktop
click properties
click screen saver tab
click Power button
Under Power Schemes check
if it is set to "Portable/Laptop"
If it is, change the drop-down to
"Home/Office Desk"
Then select never for each of the 3 options
below called "Settings for Home/Office Desk Power Scheme"

Good Luck,

Trev

Your post reads as if the Optiplex is plugged into an _uninteruptable
power supply_. If this is true the battery needs to be replaced.
