windows xp logs off without notice

has anyone heard of windows xp logging a user out without any notice if so
how can this be fixed

Open Display Properties, Screen Saver tab, deselect "On resume, password
protect".

That's a screensaver password not log off

There is a setting to logoff with a certain period of inactivity
 
the system im trying to troubleshoot logs the user out even while the are
using the computer I use that sceensaver password protect with no problem
that im aware of

This is probably the result of some malware that has affected the file
userinit.exe or the registry entry that points to it. I have dealt with this
issue on several previous occasions, with mixed results. I would suggest the
following options:
a) Ask a computer-savvy friend to assist you. He will need some means to
access your hard disk independently of Windows. He also needs some
experience in registry editing.
b) If you have another PC that is networked to the problem machine and if
the problem machine runs Windows XP Professional and if you have some
experience with maintenance at a Command Prompt level then it may be
possible to resolve the problem. Post again if this is the case.
c) Reload Windows from scratch.
 
Check your power options.
Click Start->Run
Type in "control powercfg.cpl" without the quotes and hit ok button. (or
you can find power options in the Control Panel)
click the advanced tab and see if "Prompt for password when computer resumes
from standby" is checked.

If so uncheck it and click OK.

thanks to you all for the quick replys
I use the password protect with no problems i'm aware of i'm not sure how
the system i'm troubleshooting is configured exactly I will contact them n
try to connect to it by remote n see if I can figure out wat is causing there
computer to do this if anyone else has any ideals let me know
