Windows XP LAN problems

I am unable to open LAN properties from Network connections. It is showing
that "unexpected error" when ever I tried to view properties. How I can
rectify it

Try from the Safe Mode. If it works from here, see "How to
Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310560) to find out how you can
check if this is a problem with some software that is running on your
system.
