I bought a copy of Windows XP Pro. I had installed it to
my computer. I recently got a new computer, so I gave my
old one to a family member, and removed XP Pro from that
computer.

I installed it on my new computer, and went to activate
it, but it now says that the number has been used too
many times, and that I need to buy a new license to use
it. That doesn't quite fly with me. I spent enough on
the program, and am keeping it for my use solely. Who do
I talk to in order to resolve this activation issue?

Hi

You can only install XP onto one computer from each XP CD. That is why you
saw the error message. You will need to 'phone Microsoft to explain what
you have done. Was there a Microsoft contact number with the error message?

I've got a similar problem.
I'm selling my PC and the buyer just wants a *clean* HDD and then he will
install Linux himself.
How do I de-activate XP Pro so as to re-install and activate my copy on my
new machine?

TIA
Craig
