Ida

I have tried to reinstall windows xp pro over and over.
I recieved the message drive C: is corrupted. I
contacted microsoft support by phone and the support tech
patiently steped me through what to do. At the end I was
told I may need a new hard drive. I purchased a new hard
drive. I now recieve the same message. I want to use
windows xp. Please help? When I typed fixmbr the
message was non-standard or invalid master boot record.
What is wrong. I unpluged nonessential devises, upgraded
bios,changed hard drives. Now what.

Ida, swap the cables of your Cdrom drive and hard drive. Just make
sure you take note of how the red stripe on the
edge of the cable lines up with the hard drive and cdrom drive. Don't
remove the ends that are attached to the motherboard. Could you tell me the
make and model of your
Motherboard?

Thank you for responding to my questions. I will sway the
cables. I have a ASUS P4T motherboard.

Hello I swaped the cables. Then started setup which
continued to the point were it was unable to copy files
from cd. I went online to see how to solve this. I got
instructions to start setup from dos prompt. Then setup
continued and to make a long story short I now receive
the message again that "setup has determined that drive
c: is corrupted and can not be repaired". I have the
diagnotic software that came with the hard drive and it
says that the drive is ok. Thanks for trying to help? I
dont have sense enough to give up so I will keep looking
for answers.
