Computer Specs:
2700+ Athlon ThoroughBred
ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe Motherboard
1 Gig Corsair RAM
40 gig Maxtor Diamond Max 8 Hard drive
ATi Radeon 9700
Zoom V.90 Controller Based Modem
U.S. Robotics Performance Pro V.92 Modem (Don't ever buy
this modem or you'll see why I have two...)
Samsung 52X/24X/52X CD-RW Drive
Floppy Drive

When I installed Windows XP Professional on my hard drive
(this was a new hard drive straight from the store,) I
received the specific error code 2. The setup spewed out a
bunch of garbage about how it could not initialize my
network components. Then it would show me a log with
messages like "Setup could not register OLE
C:/Windows/System32/netman.dll" and other files like that.
Then at the end of the log, it also gave another error
code called 0x7e.

I wanted to try to return to the original setup, so I
could just reformat my hard drive and try again, but it
won't work! My computer will just restart back into the
Windows XP setup, give me the error, restart back into the
setup, give me the error, and so on. Does anyone have any
idea what I can do to solve this problem?

.
remove one of the two modems, reboot to the xp cd and
press f10 to start a new install and then delete the
partitions and create a new one and clean install xp.

you may need to remove all but one stick of ram or all
the pci cards to get xp installed.

also if you used maxblast then remove it as it too could
be the root cause.
