I have an AMD 64 bit 3000+ chip on a Gigabyte K8 Triton MB and I'm trying to
intall Window XP SP 2 PRO. I have it set up to boot from the CD. It begins to
install with the blue screen in the background but it locks up when it says
it's starting windows. I also tried a Windows XP Home ed. but it does the
same thing. Does anyone know why it would be locking up?

Take out all non-essential hardware.. Install with minimal hardware to see
if that helps..
(Video, hard drive, mouse, keyboard, CD/DVD drive)
You don't need sound, modem, network, USB cards, firewire cards, printers
connected to the machine, external drives connected to the machine etc..

Check for any BIOS upgrades..

Bad hardware, start by tesing

1. RAM with memtest http://www.memtest86.org
2. HDD with diagnostics from the manufacturer
3. try another known good optical drive
4. check the system board for visual problems [leaking and or bulging
caps]
