We had our computer with ME. unfortunantly during
preperations to install XP ME has now had a serious boot
failure. We attempted to install XP on the new hard
drive to keep the ME information intact but each time we
attempt to use the CD it wishes to get a boot disk. We
attempted to get a boot disk from ME and a CD rom boot
disk recommended to get started yet neither will start
the cd rom to get XP installed. the computer is a Intel
p4 1.6 ghz computer and the former boot disk we had
corrupted and created our delema.

Is there any options that we can use to make a boot disk
activate the XP cd to allow the install to start? Any
suggestion would be apreciated.

The Windows Xp disk is bootable go into your bios and change the boot order
to have the Cd rom start first , then you will not need a boot disk but if
you really need a boot disk go here
http://www.bootdisk.com/

I made a boot disk for ME and XP from that page and also
the CD Rom is set as primary in the bios. The CD Rom
seems to activate but never runs the cd. The XP boot
disk I made was 6 floopies when completed and will not
get past the first disk.

Is your new hard drive set up as "C"? Do you have a WinME boot disk?
Or any other boot disk except WinXP? If yes, try booting from the
ME/other boot disk and then use FDISK to patition and format "C" with
/s option. Now your WinXP CD should boot and allow you to proceed with
the installation.

You say the Cd rom is set to primary but what order is the boot you should
have an area in the bios for the boot order
Check the manual for the motherboard and what to set it for .
What motherboard do you have

Just so you know it's set by us on purpose as CD rom
floppy then C:\. Becuase we have tried for about a week
to repair it we are going to take it to a repair shop.

I am on the way out the door to buy a CD-ROM drive cleaning disc.
Have been trying to load XP in various ways leaving me with the notion
that perhaps I have a dirty CD drive or maybe a failing one or a bad disc
from Microwhiz.
