I have noticed when I open add/remove programs in control panel I have about 30 hotfixes all with a size of approx 20 meg. If you click on any of them it says used rarely and some date back to early 2003. My question is can these be removed?

Colin,

Don't uninstall those updates. Uninstalling the hotfixes leaves your system insecure. Each Qxxxxxx represents an update from Microsoft. To know which update is what, use the following method:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=nnnnnn [Substitute the "nnnnnn" with the actual numbers. Don't include the "Q"]

You'll also see the $NtUninstall folders in Windows folder. They are created when you install a Microsoft Service Pack, a hot fix, or certain security updates. You may leave them there unless you need hard drive space. Visit http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm and get the utility which removes Hotfix Backup files and the Add/Remove Programs Registry entries.

No - Those are your Windows Critical Updates.
