Windows XP Home :-(

I have a problem with my girlfriends PC and Windows XP home. Is it me, or is
this OS a total POS?
She purchased a brand new Toshiba Sattelite V70, and has had constant system
crashes. In most cases, these crashes are related to TCP/IP networking, and
on a number of occasions, the system has completely lost the TCP/IP stack.

I have added all of the latest hotfixes, with the exception of the dreaded
SP2.

I'm a network admin, and I've been working perfectly fine with Windows XP
Professional, since its release.

I also find it very unusual that Toshiba have no drivers for the said laptop
on their site, so I'm assuming that Windows has all required driver files. Of
late, the only recent update has been a BIOS Flash associated with system
standby. I'll be applying this as soon as I see her again.

I intend to contact Toshiba soon as well, because quite frankly, if this
degree of system crashing is typical, they should not be despatching these
laptops with this OS.

Hi Andrew,

What exactly would you like to know?

You stated that you've worked with WinXP and been perfectly fine, but you
also call it a POS. Or were you referring to just the Home version? FWIW,
the Home and Pro versions share the same core engine. Basically, my POV here
is that the system is brand new, and therefore under warranty. No user
should bother themselves with fixing a system that is under warranty, that's
what the manufacturer is for - make them get it right. Toshiba is normally
pretty reliable for production laptops, but she may simply have gotten a bad
one.

BTW, there's nothing wrong with SP2. I've installed it on a fair number of
systems without issue. Preparation is everything.
