I am ready to purchase a new Dell laptop for my daughter
who is going off to school. The school has a wireless
network. Some things I have read indicate I should
purchase Windows XP Professional for the wireless
functionality.

Is that true or could she easily get by with Windows XP
Home. She will be doing internet acess, Word, Excel, etc.,
basic computing tasks.

Many colleges require the user to log onto/join a domain. XP home cannot do
this. Find out from the school if the user needs to join a domain. If so,
you need xp pro.

Before buying anything, check with the school. There's a very good chance she will need the capability to join a domain, and that capability requires XP Professional.

Mick:

I use WiFi with both Home and Pro. WiFi functions the same in both.

As others have said, check with the school re: domain connectivity issues.

If in doubt, buy XP Pro.
