Windows XP Home & Upgrading Computer Components

I have been happily using XP Home with my current mobo, Athlon processor,
graphics card & etc for a long time. I want to upgrade the guts of my PC soon
and am concerned that I might run into 'activation' problems when I reinstall
XP Home. I believe XP can be 'funny' about a change in hardware components
i.e. it thinks that I might be installing XP on a second PC. I seem to
remember there was talk of this when XP was first released.

Q: Should I just simply go ahead without any worries or can anyone advise me
or point me in the direction of appropriate information/support for this
scenario?

Hi,

Read up on activation here:

If you have a retail version of WindowsXP, then the hardware change will
require reactivation and should go through without a problem. The worst case
scenario is that you call it in. OEM and preinstalled systems do not allow
for a hardware change of this nature, as they are tied to the hardware that
are originally activated on.

Thanks Rick,
I have the retail version of XP Home. The WPA article was a big help.
