Hi
I just had a problem where a file 'HAL.DLL' was corrupted, I managed to get
a copy of the file from another PC and all seemed okay. However I now seem to
have a very slow PC but the main query I have is that at shutdown I now get
the message 'okay the switch of your PC'. I remember this happening on
Windows 98 but never before on XP.

Your help would be appreciated

Try this:
(I saw this on a website for Windows NT machine. Use this at your own risk
as it involves modifying registry settings. OR take a backup of your registry
before trying this.

Refere to Microsoft's KB articles on how to do this.

Regarding the registry setting
Follow the procedures below:

1.) Start the registry editor (REGEDIT.EXE)

2.) Goto the Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

3.) If the value PowerdownAfterShutdown exists change it to1. Go to step 5

4.) If the value does not exist add it as type REG_SZ and set to 1

5.) Exit the registry editor

Alternatively you could change the value to 0 and reboot and check it.
