Hello, I am running XP Home and cannot download any new software or software
updates. I am listed as an system administrator but am wondering if someone
in my household changed the security settings. I would appreciate any help in
locating possible solutions. Thank you!

Wjat happens when you try? And by "download" do you mean "install" (ie from
a CD) or do you mean saving a file from a website onto your HDD?

Hi Gordon,

When I try to download (save a web file to the HD) the file will begin the
download and it appears normal but when it comes time to finalize, I get an
error (I apologize, I don't have the exact error in front of me) and it will
not allow me to proceed. A friend at work suggested it may be because the
security settings have been changed and I am just not aware of it. I have
tried to find the settings to check them, but have been unable to do so. Or,
it could be something altogether different. Let me know if there is any other
information you need. Thanks!

First thing to try is a disk cleanup. Empty your temp internet and temp
folders and see if that has any effect.
