Windows XP Home restarts when closed down

When I had Windows ME as my OS, I got used to my computer restarting when I tried to close down, whenever I had accessed another computer on my network. Another attempt to close after this reboot always worked
I recently bought XP Home, and installed it on my larger D drive (leaving ME on C)
Everything works OK (get the choice of OS during boot with XP the default), but the restarting problem on closedown still occurs, sometimes even when no other computer has been accessed
This is annoying rather than serious, but I would like to know whether this is a software problem or hardware
The D drive is on a Promise controller PCI card.

think it could be a trojan problem.
