Ok, so I've turned off my firewall, disabled my pop up
blocker and turned off my virus software. I log in to
WindowsMessenger and wait for the remote assistance
request. When I get it, I accept it, then have the user
start the Application Sharing. The window for app.
sharing opens, then just hangs with 'waiting...' in the
window.

I tried to get remote assistance from Microsoft, but when
I go to submit the request, it tells me the Administrator
removed this access - contact the administrator.

Hate to tell Microsoft, but I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR of my
pc. WTF?

Oh, gawd. It might be too late and you're possibly now infected if you went
on internet that way, but turn those things back on immediately. WTH advised
you to do such a thing!?

Well, there's your probable answer.

You're not telling MS. You're telling lots of people all over the world who
try to help but who almost surely don't work for MS.

Right-click on My Computer, select Manage, expand Services, and in the right
pane right click Remote Assistance and enable that service. After exiting
from all that, right-click My Computer again, select Properties, then I
think (this is from fallible memory) click on Advanced, look around there
for the option to allow the computer to use Remote Assistance. For more
info, use Help and type in Remote Assistance as the search terms. Both
computers need to be set up the same. If the XP firewall is turned on, be
sure that the firewalled connection itself is set to allow usage of Remote
Assistance. If using a 3rd party firewall, consult its Help about which port
to open on the firewall to allow usage of Remote Assistance.

Best wishes.
