I have just purchased via eBay USB 2gig to attach for back up. Has 3-point
cable. I have green light on USB 2gig store. But it does not show in HW
devices in My Computer. Asked supplier who advised XP should just recognise
it when attached.
Than ya all....

Yes XP should recognize the device. Perhaps it is busted. Have you tried it
on another system? Have you tried a different cable?

Cable ok, I have a green light on box. Don't seem to have a driver for it?
or wouldn't I get a green light if that was the case?

In Device Manager check the Universal Serial Bus Controller
category for "USB Mass Storage Device". There should also
be an entry in both Storage Volumes and Disk Drives. I would
run DiskMgmt.Msc and see if the USB drive is seen by Disk
Manager.

Misidentified or Unknown USB devices may be listed in a
category "Other" or as Unknown in the USB category.
