Windows XP Home is slow after last auto updates

XP Home notified me of new updates that I let it install. The PC down runs like a dog with four broken legs! I've tried t
run antivirus software and after an hour and a half it had only checked 2500 files. It took 20 minutes to print out my tax forms out of Turbo Tax. I can no longer open Eudora (can't access temporary files). Any suggestions
 
Do a System Restore to a date/time before the updates.
