I have a computer that came with Windows XP Home Edition
installed. I believe over time some of the XP files have
been corrupted because the computer is somewhat unstable
and want to re-install the XP software. However, I do
not have the CD's. Is there another answer to correcting
the corrupted files?

HI John,

Start/run "sfc /scannow" to have the system verify the integrity of the
installed system files. If prompted for your CD, redirect to the I386 folder
on your hard drive, probably under C:\Windows.
