My computer has been operating on Windows XP Home edition
for 2 years with no problems. My daughter bought a new
computer with Windows XP Professional edition and
installed this version on my computer. Now my computer
has slowed down and I want to uninstall the professional
edition. I uninstalled Windows XP from the Control Panel
and tried to reinstall my original home edition software
but it keeps telling me that it cannot overwrite the
Professional edition files. What can I do?

All you can do is format your hard drive and install Windows XP Home again.
You can't downgrade from XP Pro to Home.

Greetings --

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to format
the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Of course, you'll want to back up any important data before
starting.
