I bought a laptop in January 2003 with Microsoft Windows
XP Home Edition loaded on it. Everything has worked
great until 5 months ago I started getting a Windows
Installer message trying to load Microsoft Office XP
Professional with FrontPage. This windows installer
message shows up when I try to open up PowerPoint files,
Excel files, Word files, and my Outlook Program, and it
also shows up when I turn my computer on. I don't even
own this software nor do I want to load it on my PC. Why
would windows installer start doing this out of the blue
and how do I get windows installer to stop doing this. I
just want to be able to open my files like I used to
without having to clear this message every single time I
click on these Microsoft Office type files.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, John

I don't suppose the version of Office loaded on your laptop was a 90 or
120-day evaluation copy was it?

Your message doesn't make any sense. You say that you're trying to use
PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook, which are all part of Office, but you
also say, and I quote, " I don't even own this software nor do I want to
load it on my PC".

So your choices are:
1. Put your Office CD in the drive and allow the installer to repair the
installation when asked, or
2. Uninstall your pirated copy of Office (see quote above).
3. After removing Office, download the free readers for PowerPoint, Excel
and Word.

Hello, no the software is not an evaluation copy.

If its pirated then Best Buy Corp. is not doing things
legally. I bought the laptop from Best Buy brand new
with the software already loaded on it. I haven't loaded
any software on this machine since I bought it. I guess
I will take the matter up with them.

Do you have Office or, do you NOT have Office? Your answer makes a
difference. You allude to both NOT having it and HAVING it! It can't be both
ways!

If you have Office, it looks like you have a "minimal" install and that the
program is looking for additional features (when needed) from the install
CD. The fix is to perform a "complete" install of Office.

It makes sense like this.
I don't even own FrontPage nor do I want to load it on my PC.
