New user of XP. New Toshiba computer. New HP printer. I
get message "Need Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1
CD" to get file usbscan.sys. I have downloaded, still
can't find file. Computer is running Win.Pack 1. MS site
tells me they don't recomment downloading 1a. Where is
usbscan.sys? Thanks

Search for the file.
It should be in C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386
That is if you have SP1 installed. I don't know who said
not to install SP1a, all sites at MS do recommend to
update to this service pack. Do it thru windows update.

Sorry, the directory should be your windows directory,
probably C:\Windows\ServicePack...
Also if you meant that you have Sp1 installed, then yes,
you should not install Sp1a. (It is the same except
excludes MS Java)
Right click my computer > properties. This will tell you
if you have sp1 installed.
Hope this helps,

Or C:\Windows\I386
That's what it is on my new Toshiba laptop.
