Is there any way of setting security levels in Windows XP
Home Edition between Account Types 'Computer
Administrator' and 'Limited'. I want to let my kids play
games on my home machine, but prevent them from
destroying my work. However, many of the games won't work
unless I make my kids accounts 'Computer Administrator'
as well?

There seems to be no file-level security at all. Is the
only way to upgrade to XP Pro?

The solution is to
1. visit the software company website to see if they
have an update that makes their software comply
with Windows logo specifications
2. if they do not, email the company to express your
discontent and future buying preferences for logo
certified software only
3. then, make the software work as a limited account
To do this, first try granting the Users group the
ability to write into the softwares installation area.
Say the software is at
C:\Program Files\Company\Game Name
Run a cmd prompt and enter
cacls "C:\Program Files\Company\Game Name" /e /t /g Users:C
If that is insufficent, then the program may need permissions on
its keys in the registry changed so Users can write to them, or
it may be trying to access elsewhere.
Any good company by this point in time should have directions
on the changes needed (actually they should have an update out
if the software is not old software)
