WHen I first go my new system the shut down and boot up
were lightning FAST!!, but now that I have my system for
a while it is consideribly SLOWER. I have optimized and
defragged, ad etc...The only reason I can think of is
because it got slower with time is the MANY updates I
have installed from Microsoft- seems there is one every
couple of weeks, sometimes two or three a week. If I go
to programs ADD/REMOVE there are many listed. Is this
the cause? Is there a work around? Do I need them all
with SP1 installed? HELP!! and THANKS :o)

I had this problem with Windows XP as well. Microsoft
released a utlity called BootVis, but it has since been
taken down (for reasons unknown to me). You may be able
to find it elsewhere, but I am not sure where at.. You
might want to search around for it, because I believe it
would help you out.
