Jim

I tried to repair windows xp home by booting from the CD.
Instead of hitting "r", I hit "enter" and a new copy of
windows xp loaded.
Now when I start my computer I get two choices to boot
from. How do I either unistall one, or just get it to boot
from the one I want? Thanks

if u dont have any info u want retained on the machine do
a clean install boot from cd when it ask for the option to
repair or install click install it will prompt for a
partition at that point D to delete partion and then enter
to install new one

Not an option for me
I have many files I do not want to lose, and haven't been able to offload.
Otherwise I would have reformatted the drive to NTFS, It's still FAT32
I think this install disk is defective.

I was also the guy with the ME disk (CD) and the ME Emergency Startup Disk (floppy)

It depends on the configuration of your system and how and where the new
copy of XP was installed.
If you specified a new folder for the location of the new copy and you have
only one hard drive and one partition, it is possible you have created a
dual boot on the same partition. See the link below to fix your problem.

If you didn't specify a new location and have a single hard drive or
partition, you can probably just edit boot.ini to remove the entry you don't
want.

I think you left out a prior step to go into the System Restore tab and turn off System Restore

REgardless, After I did the above, I was successful in getting to boot into the correct windows. But how do I delete the c:\windows.0 subdirectory with the offending second load? My disk is near capacity. I need to delete the second windows XP installed to get back to where I belong

Regards
Dal

If you boot into the correct Windows, you should be able to delete the
windows.0 folder. If you can't please post back with exactly what you are
doing.
