I have just added a USB graphic tablet to my laptop. Unfortunately although
this is working I can no longer shutdown my computer ie it goes through all
the motions but on the screen which states 'windows is shutting down' nothing
happens so I have to turn it off manually. I tried a system restore - but I
can't . ~for some reason or other there aren't any!!! Can anyone help?

it might be your display driver. What display adapter and driver do you
have ?

Take a look at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q307274 as MS have
released A patch for this problem. Also make sure you visit the Tablet
manufacturers web site and download the latest drivers. Finally if that does
not help then take a look at Help And Support from your start menu. There is
a Startup/Shutdown troubleshooter that you can work through.

If none of that works then take a look at your Event Viewer, Start >>
Control Panel > Admin Tools >> Event Viewer. Are there any entries relating
to the dte/time you are shutting down your machine?
