I wonder if somebody could help me sort out this problem with Windows
XP Home on a laptop? I installed a cable modem (NTL) recently and
since then Windows just locks up several times a day, and the only way
I can get out of it is to disconnect the power and take out the
battery. I've been to the Microsoft site and downloaded all the
Windows upgrades that were available, but this hasn't helped.

Thanks in advance

I guess you used latest and correct drivers for modem? If XP has built-in
drivers, did you try with those?
Otherwise see on web if there are any new drivers for your modem.
What about if you uninstall modem? is then OK or still freezing?

Thanks SleeperMan. I ccouldn't find any newer drivers. While I was
getting together the information I need to re-install the modem if I
uninstall it, I tried uninstalling the Realtek ethernet driver and
that seems to have fixed the problem. Now I have to work out how to
stop Windows re-intalling it every time I switch on - I suppose the
only way is to remove the hardware? I tried just disabling it but that
didn't work.
