Hello,

This is my problem:

When I startup my comp, a screen shows up giving me a
selection of:

1) Safe Mode
2) Safe Mode with Networking
3) Safe Mode with Command Prompt
4) Last Known Good Configuration
5) Start Windows Normally

When I click one of these Windows is supposed to open,
but before another screen appears, it freezes!!

I've tried choosing each one and the result is identical,
FREEZING!!

Can anyone help me fix this prblem and tell me what the
cause of this problem is?

Thanks in advance!!

Joe

If you have a retail XP cd , you can try a repair install. Hopefully it is
not a hardware failure . Jym

Jym,

Hi. I booted with my XP in CD drive, and picked the
repair installation. It asks me which installation I want
and gives me one choice:

1. c:\Windows

So I enter 1, but then it asks me for an Administrator
password. It's my aunt's computer and she says she
doesn't have an administrator password. Is this
administor password the password to login to Windows?

So, then I press enter to cancel and it takes me to a
command prompt:

c:\Windows

I am given a choice of commands. So what should I do now!?

Thanks in advance!!

It always asks for a password. If you do not use one ,like I don't , enter
will work. I would think that the log on and the administrative password is
the same , if you are the only user. You ended up in the recovery console.
What section that you need is pass that , in the install section / repair
present installation. Jym
