I asked Windows XP to format my F drive on installing it to
give it enough room (it's a memory hog). It instead
formatted my C drive!!! Now what do I do?
Can I unformat?
Can I somehow start my computer and get past the "A:"? I
tried to load Ditto program so that I can restore from my
tape backup, but this doesn't work either.
I can read the C drive but the Windows XP setup.exe says it
won't setup now without Windows, which it just formatted to
oblivion.

[I bought Windows XP to make my life easier. I should have
known Bill Gates would screw me again.]

Once the disk has been formatted, there is no practical way to retrieve the
data. There are companies that specialize in this type of data retrieval,
but is terribly expensive and
there is no guarantee of how much can be retrieved. BTW, Windows would not
have formatted C: had you not told it to. This indicates you formatted
using the CD. For formatting any drive other than the boot drive, you
should have used Disk Management for formatting, etc.

Hello, There are several software to recover data even from deleted and then
formated drives. I use Get Data Back (i think the compay's name is Runtime).
It works great for me. Maybe you will not be able to recover all your info,
but at this time, each file will be a bonus.

I cant remember exactly how it works, but I installed a new windows HD,
installed the formated one as a secondary, and installed and executed the
software on the windows HD. Read the on line documentation first.

Remember, avoid to write and install new information or software on you
formated HD, all the new info, can destroy the info you are a trying to
recover.

I hope this can help you
