Is there a way that I can remotely open certain ports / or disable on an XP
firewall so that I can deploy a virus package? I have clients over a WAN
infrastructure that I cannot physically access.

Start | Run <type in> Firewall.cpl <enter>

You can disable it there or set ports in the exemption tab.

My bad, if you can remotely edit the registry, it would appear you
could add (open) a port here:

Key Name:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\GloballyOpenPorts\List

1) Use group policy to either turn off the firewall or create the
desired exceptions.

2) Install anti-virus (via SMS or similar?)

3) Use group policy to re-enable firewall, with desired exceptions for
future use.
