Windows XP File Sharing/Printing Connectivity Trouble--Help!

I have a Desktop and a Laptop both running Windows XP SP2 with all the
other Windows Updates current. Although each can connect to the Internet
through a router/cable modem without any difficulty I am constantly plagued
with connectivity trouble between the two computers using My Network
Places. Lately I did a clean install of XP on the Desktop and I've been
unable to get the computers to file share or print from the Desktop--the
printer is installed to the Laptop--the primary computer. And yes, I've
setup the directories to file share on the Desktop. Clearly something is
amiss. I've tried using the Network Setup Wizard a couple different ways
and I've even put the modem in standby and killed the firewalls, antivirus,
and spyware programs with no affect.

What exactly is my setup and what choice should I be picking with the
Network Setup Wizard?

I wish there were some simple answers that I have just misunderstood to
make file sharing and printing robust like it should be but so far _not_ so
good. Are there some good KB article(s) on how this all should be setup?
I have full access to both machines. Thank you for any help on this.

Is there a better source to discuss networking/connectivity problems
between Microsoft Windows XP boxes then this newsgroup? Any forums?

How about Internet/newsgroup places for video card to HDTV
questions/problems?

Thank you.
