What sort of program ? - An IP Address is readily available for
Internet enabled applications and isn't something you'll normally
need to provide. Your NIC (Network Interface Card) will get
assigned an IP Address when the PC boots. Depending on how
you connect to the web it can either be a WAN (Wide Area
Network) address provided by your ISP or a LAN (Local Area
Network) address provided by your router or Broadband device.
To see your IP (NIC) Click Start, Run (Type) Command [Enter]
Click into the Command Prompt box & type Ipconfig/all [Enter]

Normally you can find this information in the network control panel by
looking at the properties of your TCP-IP protocol under the connection you
use for your computer.

Hi Tiffani,

Click start/run, type cmd. From the prompt, type:

ipconfig /all

Your IP is listed here. Keep in mind that if you are using a router or
similar device, the IP assigned to your system may not be the same as the
one that is showing to the rest of the world.

a program is asking me for my ethernet address, where do I find that?
Thanks
for any help

Might I add to Rick's suggestion:

at the command prompt, not only do you want to type what he said, but append
it with the following:
|more
that will show ALL instances of EVERYTHING in your network configuration.

Hope this helps!
