Windows XP error message at start up

While my Windows XP is loading up (right before going into the desktop,
during the light blue screen), it will give me an error box message saying
this:

"C:\windows\updtnv.28.exe cannot be found. Please use the search function to
find it or close error box."

I have no idea what that stands for, and I've tried looking up "" on the
internet but can't find any sources. I'm guessing it might be a Norton or
Synamatic issue, but I've already re-installed my 2006 version so that
probably isn't it...

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Chris

A Google for "updtnv.28.exe doesn't bring up anything. Usually that means it
is malware, but of course not always. If you recently removed malware, then
the removal tool left an entry in Startup that is orphaned. I would first
make sure the machine is completely virus/malware-free and then, if that
doesn't solve the issue, do clean-boot troubleshooting.

Yes, quite a difference between what the OP actually wrote. He did say he
had a Symantec product installed once. Sounds like it did the usual bad
Symantec job of uninstalling.

Clever work figuring that out!

I thank everyone for trying to help me, and while copying and pasting the
error message in capitals, it seems to have come up with more information.
Though I still have no idea how to fix it because people on different forums
are saying seperate things. I don't believe it's malware because I checked
for any of that with Spybot, Spy-sweeper and Norton Anti Virus 2006. I
decided to post my hi-jack this log so maybe this could help someone tell me
what I'm suppose to do. And if it's not taking a missing registry key away
with Hijack-this, then where I am I suppose to find this exe file to get it?
Thanks!

We ask that you *not* post HJT logs in the MS newsgroups. It takes a great
deal of time and skill to analyze HJT logs and you will not get the
attention you need here. Instead, post in one of the specialty forums
listed below.

However as "marinosa" wrote, the file probably belongs to a Symantec
product. In that case, use the links about clean-boot troubleshooting that
I already gave you, starting with the System Configuration Utility
(msconfig).

Thanks again in advance to everyone. I apologize for posting the Hijack-this
log, I was unaware that it wasn't acceptable on this forum. I did what was
suggested and checked through the msconfig search function, and found that
the error is coming from the services tab. I looked through all of the check
boxes, trying different things and the only one that seemed to make a
difference was the Symantic Event manager which seemed to fix the issue at
first, but then started appearing again. I don't understand why Norton 2006
would leave this kind of message though.

You've definitely determined that the issue is with a Symantec product.
Contact them for help with their software; this is not a Windows issue.
