Hello.

We use Windows XP and have not had a problem until now. We use onl
one account ("Owner") who has all the Administrative permissions. W
have the Guest option turned off. There is no password set for an
account. The last time we attempted to turn on the computer, we fin
that the Guest option was turned on and that a password was set fo
Owner and Guest that we did not know. We have no way of knowing wha
the password is and there was no password recovery disk created prio
to this. We can not do anything that would delete any personal file
because we are opening a business and we have very important document
saved on the computer. I attempted to run the Windows Applicatio
Recovery CD. What that did is inform me that Windows XP containte
errors and it offered me the opportunity for it to fix these errors.
What it in a way did is install a new version of Windows XP, yet sav
the files from the old version. So basically it allowed me to create
new user. This I did, and found out that it created a password for thi
new user too. Before I was able to log in as the user too!!! This i
very frustrating and I am distraught because I can not lose th
important documents. I am currently using a public terminal to acces
any internet help. Please help me as I am desparate.

Sincerely,

Simply log in using the built-in Administrator account (which
cannot be deleted) and modify the desired account(s). By design, the
only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP Home is to
reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice at
the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.
