There was some problem with my windows XP after the SP2 patch download and
the system is not booting up. I am not sure how it happened, but I wanted to
clean up the mess. So I tried to reload the OS with the factory installed
software CDs that came along with the laptop but I am unable to do so. It is
just not booting up even with the CD. What am I supposed to do?

What should I do to re-install with the good old OS (Windows XP-home with no
SPs) I had. Any help would be great !!

Thanks

Hi

Reboot your system, then keep tapping the F8 key until you see a screen that
has Safe Mode access on it. Use that to try and uninstall SP2. Failing
that, try a System Restore from Safe Mode, back to a point before SP2 was
installed.

Are you not ever getting prompted for CD? Does your system ever POST? If so,
does it prompt you to enter the BIOS? You may need to move the CD up in the
boot order to get your system booting from it.

Hi, I think the problem is that the system is not able to post and it did not
prompt to enter the BIOS. I tried pressing F8 many times, but there was no
response.
I am not sure what is happening. Help !

Thanks

Anyone got a chance to look at this post. I see most of the postings are
left un-answered and new postings keep adding up.
Please help !!!

List what make of laptop it is. Exact model number. Then tell us EXACTLY
what happens when you switch it on. Any lights appear - is there any life?

Does anything come up on the screen? Is it just that the backlight in the
display has broken. I have seen people baffled and think that their machine
is dead when it is only a bulb!

Tell us your findings.

Hi Dan, I was medling with my laptop (Sony vaio) and it was able to reboot
and I got to the Safe mode and was able to fix things up. The trouble stayed
for 3 days. It was not with the bulb prob, the green led was glowing when i
switched on, but there was no response and there was this black dark screen
with a white cursor on the top left corner and thats all. And nothing would
proceed from there. No setup message or windows login screen. Anyways I am
through it, I shall get through the logs or registry's to see what was
causing the prob. Thanks for your help. Season's greetings.

Have a beautiful new year.

After a recent windows download of updates my computer is not booting up. I
am not sure how it happened, but I keep getting up to the black screen with
the scrolling blue blocks of lights when it stops momentarily and then goes
back to rebooting up again and it seems to do this in an endless loop. Any
ideas?
