My girlfriend and I were playing a game of the recently
released game "sacred" from encore software across the
internet. She lost connection to the game. I called her up
and she said her windows was in a state of constant
rebooting. It gets to the point where it is supposed to
load up the XP splash screen with the little green bar at
the bottom, but before you see the screen, the computer
reboots itself. Its a viscious loop.
I had her try going into safe mode by pressing F8, and she
gets the list of safe mode options to come up. When she
chooses any one of them(tried them all) the same behaviour
occurs.
As a final resort, I had her put her windows XP home
edition disc into the CD rom and reboot again. It starts
the loading up of the setup for windows, goes past the
point of installing 3rd party scsi drivers, and then
crashes when it would normally start loading setup files.
The only thing I can think of is that her RAM has gone bad.
She has only 1 stick of 256 MB in the system. I had her try
reseating the RAM and also move it to another slot. I was
going to go out and buy her another stick and install that
this week, but I would like to run this by you all to see
if anyone else has any other thoughts?
Thank you,
Ben S.
