Okay this has stumped me.
My computer worked great. I could connect to my network and to the
internet. I obtain my ip address by way of my routers dhcp server.
Yesterday I decided I would like to change to a static IP (just to test
out a dns server).
Here's where things get strange.
I go to "Network Connection" and right click on "Local Area Connection"
and click properties.
A message pops up:
"An unknown error has occurred."
That is a horrible message to see because it can mean anything.
I haven't installed any new programs except McGafee AV.
But why would that not let me change my connection settings?
Now it might be the NIC it's self but that wouldn't explain why I get
the same error on the other network connections (1394 and bluetooth.
It was late at night and I figured I should nip it in the butt, so I
uninstall and reinstall the NIC driver. Well when I tried to reinstall
it, windows tells me the drivers wouldn't take.
So I update the drivers.
Now when I try to get info on the driver it says "Failed to obtain the
GUID".
I don't know what to do.
I do not want to have to do a reinstall.
If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated.
