Tried several times to install a picture card reader (for digicam) but I get
a message saying that the accessory has not passed Windows logo testing and
that continuing with installation can/will damage the performance of my pc.
I have previously had this installed before on the xp but deleted it after a
complete reboot. Also tried to use the driver software from the camera
manufacturer that indicates that it's compatible with XP but I get the same
message. Please help!

Lea;
All you can do is acknowledge the message and let the installation continue.
Often there are no problems.
That message means the manufacturer has not had that driver submitted to
Microsoft for testing as well as paid the appropriate costs for the testing.

Set a restore point and then install the software.
If it causes problems restore the system.
