when i turn on the computer it goes onto the sign in screen, i then click
onto my account and enter it, a few seconds later a box appears stating
windows could not load user profile as it seems to be corrupt or something
about security. I then clcik ok and it enters the computer but as a temporary
account which anything i would save on it will get deleted. I can enter the
account but thats all. Furtheremore, all my work insidde my documents had
disapeared as well as certain shorcuts and folders on my desktop. In addition
to this the computer would make stuttering noises for which it would freeze
the computer for a while and then allow me to carry on with whatever. i.e
open folders.
What i have done is through this account i have opend up a new account and
have logged onto the new account and from my computer and documents and
settings have had luck to transfer all my files from the corrupt account into
the new account, once having done that have del. the corrupt account and
opened up a new one again, however the computer keeps on freezing and making
those noises. I am not sure what to do. Should i reinstall windows xp or will
that have no affect on it, my account also seem to run abit slower.

Hi ndp,

You have mentioned noises. Is that the operating system or Hard Drive?
Does it sound like the Hard Drive going bad?
Buy a new Hard Drive and install Windows XP on that Hard Drive. Make your
current Hard Drive, a slave to your new Hard Drive.

I would copy Favorites and your E-mails over to the new Computer. You
can't move the Address Book, but you can import the entries to your new
Address Book. You can copy My Documents over or Move them over. Don't import
settings.
