I posted this question in general discussion before I found this network
area, I apologize for doubling up.

Basically,

I have a Win XP Pro install.

I installed all the current updates.

There is no third party software as of yet.

When I connect online though my LAN, my network tools detect this computer
trying to reach 65.200.201.xxx. I don't know why, but my research has those
addresses for something called Akamai.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I think it might be a Win media player thing, but I could be wrong.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Craig

Craig,

Did you install Windows yourself from scratch, or is this an OEM install?
Akamai is a content provider, and handles local content hosting for things like
antivirus updates, and other bandwidth intensive applications.

If you really want to find out what program is doing the "calling home" get
TCPView (free) from SysInternals.
