Recently I did a clean install of XP Home on my Dell
laptop. Had several problems with duel boot and duel
installations etc. I decided to contact Microsoft support
and they helped me do a "third" clean install. Having all
of the original problems solved I now had a "new" one!
It's a white bar that loads from left to right that looks
like a download or and upload bar. This happens after the
DOS portion of the boot and before the Windows loading
screen. Microsoft cannot help me get rid of it as they
have not seen it before??? Anyway, the first two times XP
was loaded clean I didn't have it and after the third,
forth and fifth times I do. Has anyone else seen this and
do you know how to get rid of it? They had me do all kinds
of adjustments and I even downloaded a video driver update
but nothing worked! They want me to live with it as
everything else is OK.

I also have a .jpg of the white bar.

Thanks for anything you can do for me,

Dennis

This is a "startup in progress bar" and is perfectly normal -
you should see between 8 - 20 traverses of the bar during startup.
Apparently, some people DON'T see this bar during startup -
and no one seems to know why.

Thanks Len, one of the MS techs did tell me that and he
also told me most people don't see it as most people
running XP have faster CPU's than I have in the laptop
(only 433). It just seams strange that I didn't have it
the first two times but ended up with it after the other
clean installs??? I guess I'll live with it............

Thanks again for your time,

Dennis
