Hi,
I bought a used computer a couple of weeks ago and i managed to have
windows crash already. Its a gateway pc without reinstallation cd from
whom I bought it.
I have a windows XP Cd but only for my toshiba laptop. And I have an
old product recovery cd-rom from a previous computer I had.

I tried to reinstall windows and I couldnt get it authenticated
(neither the numbers on the side of the computer nor the cd product key
worked.

I formatted it, reinstalled windows, again same thing.

The micorosoft voice message thing was no luck too.

Can anyone please help??

And before any smart comments, no I dont have copied stuff.
And no, I dont want to buy a windows Xp Cd for a hundred $$ when I
bought a computer for $250!

Would appreciate any advice from the good people out there!
Thank you!

Your Gateway issued Windows XP license is only valid with
a Gateway recovery CD. Contact Gateway support and request
their Windows XP recovery CD.

1. Wipe the hard drive with a zero fill utility
2. Buy a CD for the OS you want to run on that PC.
3. Install the OS on the CD.

If you don't want to have to purchase a license for Windows XP, you can use
a superior operating system that will cost you nothing. Take a look at ...

http://ubuntu.com

.... to learn how to do it.

Cheers.
