I've got about 5 different models of Windows XP machines I want to
reimage this summer (700+ machines). I'm building a base image now
and was wondering about something. Is it possible to build an image
on one machine with all the software and updates I need, then remove
the hardware information, image that machine, load the image onto
another machine and just have it find hardware? I am running on a
Novell network, so I'd have to touch each machine afterwards to add
the client, but that shouldn't be a big deal. I'm more concerned
about have to run Windows updates, Microsoft Office XP (3 CD's), and
close to 10 other software packages. Thanks for any help.

Just moving from a school situation with my career we used another option..
Norton Ghost. Don't mean to sell another product but XP is pretty good about
using different hardware on different PC's when it gets an image that isnt
quite right. We did it with about 700 PCs at the same time and only had one
lab of about 40 computers that needed to be touched physically due to a
network backbone problem in that room.

Hope that helps a little,
Mark Broom
