Operating System: Windows XP Home Editio
Office Suite: Office ’97 Professiona
Installed Windows XP Home Edition on a new computer for my wife, then installed an old copy of Microsoft Office ’97 Professional Edition. It is not that I am cheap it’s just that my wife doesn’t need the aggravation of the latest Microsoft Office Suite, yet. One step at a time. The problem is that I get these annoying dialog boxes with Word and Excel. Power Point and Access do not suffer from the same problems
Problem #1 with Word
When I start Word by double clicking on a .doc file I always get this dialog box. If I just say OK or Cancel, then it works OK but it is very annoying and I want to fix it
When I start Word first and then use the menu system, File-Open, this does not happen
Also if Word is already running, I can double click the file and do not get the annoying dialog box
....test.doc is being used by Barbara Gruhl do you want to make a copy? OK , CANCE
Problem #2 with Exce
When I start Excel by double clicking on an .xls file I always get this dialog box. If I just say OK, then it works fine
Note: When I Start Excel first and then use the menu system, File-Open, this does not happen
Also if Excel is already running I can double click the file and do not get the annoying dialog box
.....A document with the name test.xls is already open. You cannot open documents with the same name even if they are in different folders. To open the second document either close the document that's currently open, or rename one of the documents
WHAT’s UP
Please advise if this can be fixed. So far everything else seems to work OK
Thanks
