You have 32bit most likely - 99.98% Chance. If you have XP Home it is for
sure 32bit. To be sure goto Start>>Run>>Type "winver" if you see 64-bit in
there anywhere u have 64 it it does not say 64 then u have 32.
Almost certainly you have the 32-bit edition. Almost anybody who
has to ask the question is running the 32-bit version. The 64-bit
version requires special hardware. It and the hardware have come
down in price, but are still substantially more expensive than
the standard consumer PCs you see around. Very few home users are
using it.
....and what will it 'state' - Itanium, 64-bit, 'not 32-bit' - the mind boggles? What if the system is 64-bit? 'winver' is very basic. From a command prompt type "systeminfo" - without the quotes. Look for 'System type:' - X86 = 32-bit.

Thanks for the info .. I was wondering about her machine because the
Windows directory is called WinNT instead of Windows like on other
Windows XP machines I've seen.
I had found another place to download the patch to prevent the blaster
virus that she has but didn't know which version she needed and was
afraid to install the wrong one.
All the OP wanted to know was whether or not he has 32 bit or 64 bit. Winver
will tell him if it is 64 bit. If it doesn't say it is 64 bit then obviously
it is 32 bit by default. This isn't rocket science.
