I'm running window's xp home on a Compaq Presario 6627au Desktop with AMD
2200 processor

I can't start my computer. If I press F8 it seams to get as far as
d347bus.sys and then freezes and if i try any of the other methods when
pressing f8 it freezes on all of them. I've also tried to use the windows cd
and put it into recovery console but it freeses straight after the setup
screen. I've been having problems with it for the last couple of months so
I have been smart enough to save most of my important files to a different
hard drive and CD's and DVD's. There is however a couple more files I would
like to transfer to my other hard drive before I reinstall is there any way I
can get a simple commard prompt so I could transfer the files. I tried using
a xp boot disk but I just go an I/O error. my disk drive was a bit dodgy
anyway.

Also has anyone ever used the recovery CD's for the Compaq Presario
desktops. It will be my first time in using them so I would like to make sure
it is pretty straight foward to use them before I reformat my computer. I
never recieved a Product key with my computer so I presume the windows xp
instalation doesn't require one. but if I do please tell me now so I can go
buy a new copy of XP Home. There must be other people out there who have the
same computer and hopefully can advise me on this.

Regards
