I dont have Windows Vista yet, and I was wondering to those of you who had XP
and switched over: Is Vista really better? Would you reccomend I get it?

Some swear by it. Some swear AT it.
I don't really like it, but haven't had any real trouble with it.
But I built a new machine just for it.
Personally, I don't see anything that would make upgrading worthwhile.
If you get a new machine with it pre-installed, fine.
In my opinion, if XP is working for you, stick with it until you need new
hardware.

If you go with vista you and want it to run great, you need two gig of ram
and a 256 meg or higher video card.
I am running Ultimate and it looks good but xp will do the same thing with
less hardware.
Now it will run on one gig of ram and a 128 meg card but it may be a little
sluggish.
You should also have a good high end processor like a core duo or core 2
duo.
It will run on P4's pretty well if they are in the 3 gig range.

Unless you need Vista to run a particular program or device
(unlikely at this time) wait until you buy a new computer.

Reconsider next year.

I will concur with the rest of the folks here that have responded. Vista is
"pretty" and does have a couple of new and/or neat features but I am not
sure that it is worth the expense of upgrading. I had to immediately go out
and upgrade my video card and add ram to my system at home in order to use
it. I would definitely recommend a minimum of 2gb of ram and a duo core
processor. I am running Vista Business at work with a 3.GHz processor and 2
gb of ram with a duo core processor and this thing flies. So, unless you
want to be on the "bleeding edge" of technology let Vista mature and let all
the hardware vendors get caught up with the drivers nightmare before you
make the switch.

If you purchase a new system get it with Vista already installed. As far as
processors go I don't want to get into any arguments but I would suggest you
go with an AMD processor. If you go with an AMD processor I would suggest an
ATI graphics card since AMD bought out ATI. They should coordinate with each
other much better since they are offered by the same company. Concerning dual
or quad processors I would go with AMD for one reason: the AMD dual core
processor is a true dual core. An Intel dual or quad processor is nothing but
two or more processors glued together.

Intel will be coming out with a true dual and quad processor soon. AMD will
soon come out with a quad core (actual quad cores) processor soon also.
