I was just going onto amazon.com to try and order Vista but it says its not
available until the end of Jan2007, why is this? I was told it would be
available this year.

Retail availability isn't until the end of January. It is now available
to Corporate customers who have Software Assurance licenses.
OEM's have the RTM code in hand to test/build images, but are
not allowed to ship Vista machines until the formal release date.
So it is available now, but only on a limited scale.

Vista is not scheduled for public release until January 30, 2007.

So what you are saying that it is not available this year, just like I
guaranteed last year.

Actually numerous times M$ said it would be available this year.

First Bob, how about dropping the $ sign designation? That's juvenile. It
is available this year. It went RTM in November - In fact I'm running a
copy of it from which this newsgroup response is being composed and sent.
It went first to corporate costumers. Retail sales start January 30, 2007
though there are a variety of coupon based upgrade programs available
through various merchandisers.

Shouldn't you be addressing this question to whomever falsely told you
that Vista would be available this year?

Only as a "Release toi Manufacturers," not as a retail product. Are
you, in fact, a computer manufacturer? If so, you'd know better than to
go through Amazon for a non-retail release.
